Happy Christmas Eve!

When the kids wake from their naps we will be heading to my parents’ house for our tradition of seeing how many people we can cram into their house at one time, snacking until we feel sick, carrying on numerous conversations at one time, having Santa make a “surprise” visit, opening some gifts, more snacking, more visiting…’s a.w.e.s.o.m.e. and it’s what makes coming from a big family THE BEST. The most wonderful part of it all is that I am the youngest of 8 and all of my siblings and usually all of their kids….and their kids….will be there. It’s somewhat organized chaos. It’s loud, it’s busy, it’s hot, it’s crazy, and it’s probably my #1 favorite family tradition.

When we finally can’t take it anymore we’ll head home to bathe the kids, read some favorite Christmas stories, I have a couple little gifts for them to open tonight, and get them settled into bed. Hopefully they will be exhausted from playing with their 20+ cousins and crash quickly so Santa can do his work and crash too…..he’s tuckered out just thinking about the next 8 hours!

Tomorrow morning we’ll open gifts from Santa, somehow make it to Mass by 9:00….then get to spend the rest of the day with Mark’s mom next door and his 2 sisters and their families. A little more low-key and we’ll be able to come over home to give the kids time to nap and unwind after lunch and then go back for the evening. It’ll be nice to spend more quality time over there without rushing back and forth to make dinner with my family too. We just had to opt out of that and slow down this year so that we can breathe and enjoy each place more without spending so much time going, going, going.

Since I probably will not be posting for at least a couple of days…..I wish you a very joyful and blessed Christmas….with time to unwind, enjoy, and be at peace. Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, Maria! Sounds great. We’re looking forward to having those big family holidays when our kids are older, too. But for now, we have to settle for just our immediate family. It has been a nice relaxed day, though.
