Happy New Year!

Whew. Still in a bit of a whirlwind here. Having lots of fun but still cleaning and organizing like crazy. I’m working on our 2009 family organizer, our 2009 craft/school plans, cleaning and clearing our bedroom and making room for a new bedroom set that is yet to come. The mound of clothes and misc. items going to Goodwill is taking over the room. I’ve rearranged Toby’s room, cleaned out our closet and actually gotten rid of so many clothes, now onto shoes…..yikes.
Anyway, onto the fun. Toby has taken a huge interest in his new bible and I frequently find him in this very same seat as pictured above, sounding out words and looking at pictures. Sometimes he’ll come out and ask me to read him a story, other times we’ll sit for a good 20-30 minutes reading story after story after story. I’m usually getting a dry throat before he wants to stop. Lilly listens right along most of the time, sometimes playing, sometimes checking out the pictures too. I love that it is such a natural part of their lives to be interested in the bible and in Jesus’ life. Their questions are so innocent but sometimes so profound. Makes us remember to try to see it all through the eyes of a child more often.
Last night we had a birthday pizza/bowling party to go to for 3 little cousins. Since it was going to mean a late dinner we had a fruit/veggie picnic on Toby’s floor while we jammed to some Jack Johnson. Toby rocks a mean air guitar and Lilly is our little drummer. The biggest excitement about the picnic is that since Toby’s room has been rearranged we have room to have a picnic on his floor! He has been a little bummed out lately that Lilly has so much more room on her bedroom floor to play and he doesn’t. Of course her bed is still a crib and his is a full size so that makes a huge difference in the free floor space in a room. We made more play room in his though so all is well now.
Finally, the bowling, oh the bowling. This was actually our first time going and it was not at an actual alley, it was at an arcade type of place with all sorts of indoor games, rock climbing wall, etc. We have never gone to an alley mainly due to the fact that only within the last year our state inforced a smoking ban on public places and we never enjoyed going to places ourselves, let alone with our kids, where we had to be forced to inhale secondhand smoke and then leave stinking like it too. Now we will definitely be going bowling! The kids had so much fun as you can see! These balls were smaller than normal so really easy for them to handle and the side rails meant they usually always hit some pins. Tonight we are off to my sister and brother-in-law’s for their annual New Year’s get together. We are such party animals that we’ll end up giving the kids baths there and be home in time to get them to bed at a decent hour. As we’ve done the last several years we’ll attempt to stay up late enough to watch the ball drop but probably end up falling asleep just before it happens! Either way, it’ll still be 2009 in the morning!
