Pre-Vacation Get-Away

We had a little unexpected opportunity come up this past weekend and were able to take a few days to head down to Kansas City for a trade show with Mark. Of course those of you who know what Mark does would think that seeing what he saw for those 3 days would be the excitement of the trip but oh no….we were thrilled to be staying in such a fancy hotel that we had a frig and a safe in our room! 🙂 It doesn’t take much to excite us.
We were in one of the fanciest(paid for by the company that invited us there!) hotels in KC and it was right at the Crown Center so while Mark worked and during his breaks we explored the Crown Center and the scenery.
We took a tour of the Hallmark Visitors Center and the kids were way too excited about seeing how a little gift bow was made….they got their very own!

We travelled way up as far as we could to the top of the hotel for a view. The restaurant(one of 4 in the hotel!) on the top rotates around constantly but it was not open when we went up.

This is the view looking down into the rooftop pool that we swam in as much as possible. So much so that the bottom of Toby’s toes started bleeding finally from scraping them on the bottom of them pool. They could not get enough of the pool. It was really nice and how often do you get to swim in a heated outdoor pool on the top of a building overlooking Kansas City?

We all even got to wear our passes and go through the show to browse the merchandise and give our opinions on some items for Mark to make decisions on before purchasing.

Of course the kids preferred hanging out and having picnics in the room.

Before leaving town to come home we walked down to Union Station and played a while at Science City which was a really nice little science center. We were also able to see the Dinosaurs Unearthed Exhibit showing there which was pretty amazing. Unfortunately it was a little too life-like for Lilly!

It was late before we made it home last night but it was such a great opportunity to be a part of that side of Mark’s business with him. A little bit of business mixed with pleasure and now we have a little bit of rest before we head out to Denver for our official family vacation!

We get a thrill out of the smallest of things too. We also just had a stay at a pretty nice hotel. But ours was for less exciting purposes. We had to take a trip for Michael's uncle's funeral services. But the place was nice!! The bed was OH SO COMFY!
