Paddle-to-the-Sea

For geography we are reading Paddle-to-the-Sea and mapping Paddle’s journey as we go. This week we made clay canoes to see if we could make them float. We also did some easy paper canoes. They involved folding paper, cutting, hole punching and yarn lacing. They turned out really great. Toby decided not to decorate his but I saw that twinkle in his eyes when he said he had a better idea. A few minutes later he came out of his room pushing this:
A little extra yarn and his beloved tape along with a Lego trailer and his canoe became very modern!
I am so thankful to see those “Aha” moments during learning time and even more thankful that he had the time and resources to carry his learning into his play.
