What’s going on…

Things have been busy! Here’s a quick update on what’s going on around here:

We are wrapping up the school year a bit quicker than I had anticipated. A lot of “life learning” has been going on aside from the normal lessons. The kids have been helping with projects around the house and yard, digging for worms and any other critter they can find to stick in a jar and we’ve taken advantage of lots of field trip opportunities.

Toby has one lesson left in his 1st grade math, then we’ll continue with lots of review through the summer. He will finish his reading program this week it looks like so after that he’ll just continue to read for fun. He is really loving the Magic Tree House series and is working his way through the entire set. He is looking forward to turning 7 next month and told me that he’s a little nervous about being so old because he knows that he’ll have to be more responsible when he’s 7! He is still doing Judo and after seeing our first Judo tournament I don’t think it’ll be long before he participates in one. He is really starting to pick it up. He will also have his first piano recital on Saturday!

Lilly is keeping us on our toes as always. She is becoming quite the little singer and has started practicing a song to sing at next year’s Mardi Gras party at church. I can’t wait to see if she really goes through with it! She continues to write, draw and color daily and is quite the creative one. We are playing around with some more reading activities as she seems interested. She is pretty excited that Toby will be passing his reading book onto her when he is done with it. She has been picking up piano playing from Toby too which is pretty neat to hear.

Mark is busier than ever as he has started making some changes in his business, taking on more responsibilities and making plans for the future direction of the store. He has been just as busy on the home front with getting several projects done. He built me an awesome arbor for my garden for Mother’s Day, finished our rain barrels and got those up and working before today’s rain, built us 7 garden boxes with trellises and so much more. It looks like he/we will become backyard beekeepers this week too when he helps his sister separate her swarm into a new hive!

As for me, I recently accepted a position with our church as Assistant to the Religious Education Director. I am super excited to start that in the fall. It is an ideal opportunity with one day/week spent at the church(the kids get to come with!) and the rest of the time I will work from home. It’s 15 hours/week and very flexible so I couldn’t pass it up. I have been in major planning mode for next year for school and want to get things all set up in the next couple of months so that I can take a mental break and enjoy the summer. I have added some blueberries, ground cherries and grapes to my garden and we have 2 apple trees and 2 pear trees waiting in the drive to be planted this weekend. Those will be a great start to the little orchard we have been wanting to get going.

That’s the most of what’s up with us. We continue to be grateful and amazed at how God provides just what we need at just the right time. Of course the challenge is always to be still enough to listen and quiet enough to hear Him but it’s always worth it.
