Garden Update

As you’ll see in the pictures, our garden is very GREEN right now.  The biggest bonus is that it’s green with all things I want and very few weeds!  We are gardening totally organic again and have done some companion planting to help with those efforts.  I have also been hand-picking caterpillars from the lettuce

Weekend Wanderings

We just had the best weekend! It started out pretty normal, Friday morning we had Toby’s 7 year well-check visit with the doctor.  He’s being referred to the eye doctor again and it looks like come September he’ll join the ranks of us who need glasses.  His sight in his right eye is 20/70.    Saturday

Part 2—More things I may never buy again

12. Lip balm.  Last year I made a batch of my own using beeswax, shea butter, coconut oil and peppermint oil.  I have supplies to make more, just need to put aside time to do it. 13. Hand cream.  Mark’s hands get tore up at work.  He LOVES the hand cream I made him last

Great garage sale finds

Yesterday we had a great day at garage sales.  I am so thankful that our kids love it as much as I do and look forward to going.  Here are few of my favorite things we found: A brand new, in the box Hamilton Beach electric carving knife.  I paid $5, retail is around $30.

Fruits of our labor

As we all know, growing our own fruits and vegetables requires a great deal of patience. This year I am so excited to see the pay-off from all those years of patience.  We started making changes and adding to our property years ago, envisioning the homestead we someday hope to have.  Each new year brings

The first “pings” of summer

Today officially kicked off canning season for me.  Our chokecherries are coming on a little strange this year but Lilly and I picked enough for our first few batches of jelly and syrup.  Last year they seemed to ripen and all be ready to pick at the same time.  Yesterday one entire tree was very

Why I don’t watch TV

I never have been drawn to the tube.  I like to be busy and accomplishing something.  I am a doer.  When I’m sitting idle, watching a show, I feel like time is slipping away from me.  Time I will never get back.  Time I could be putting to better use.  On the rare occasion that
