Homemade Coffee Creamer

Although I am rarely more than a cup a day kind of girl, when I do drink coffee I like it to be creamy and sweet.  I used to buy flavored creamer(and still added stevia) but have recently found a great frugal alternative that I can make at home and that spares me all the extra junk in commercial creamers.  I also used to keep a container of dry creamer on hand just for when I ran out of liquid.  Then I found out that dry milk is flammable!  Tossed that stuff out and have moved on to this:

Homemade Coffee Creamer:

1 14oz. can of sweetened condensed milk

1-1 1/2 cup whole milk

Whisk it together and store it in a canning jar.  Should keep for about 2 weeks if you don’t drink it all before then!

The possibilities for flavors are endless using this recipe as the main base.  Today I added just a couple drops of almond extract.  Delicious!

I am looking forward to playing around with different flavors that I found here.  Want to try?

*Vanilla
to the base recipe, add
1 Tablespoon of Vanilla

*Cinnamon Vanilla
to the base recipe, add
1 Tablespoon of Vanilla
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

*Chocolate
to the base recipe, add
1 Tablespoon of Vanilla
3 Tablespoons cocoa powder

*Chocolate Mint
to the base recipe, add
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
3 Tablespoons cocoa powder

*Dulce de Leche

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
2 Tablespoons caramel sauce or canned dulce de leche

Note: consider decreasing the amount of sweetened condensed milk in the base recipe by 2 Tablespoons to keep your creamer from being too sweet.

*Amaretto

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon almond extract

*Chocolate Orange
to the base recipe, add
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
3 T. cocoa powder
1 teaspoon orange extract

*Chocolate Cinnamon

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
3 Tablespoons cocoa powder

  • i hope the flammability of powdered milk was not from firsthand experience!

  • Not exactly. Just learned that the “fire balls” they set off when we go see fireworks at the lake are basically a 50 gallon drum full of powdered milk. Did a little research and found out it’s true. Not a fan of ingesting things that easily ignite!

  • Love this!!! Thank you so much for sharing. I will be making this soon for my hubby & I will let you know what he thought! :)

  • Popping to say that I met someone today who read this post and is using the creamer with success.

Oh wow…thank you so much!! I love creamer but it gets pricey, I cant wait to try this and all the different variations. I wonder how you make Italian Sweet Cream? Its probably easy but I just dont know it, ha!

    • Italian Sweet Cream is one of my favorites too! I have to admit, I have backed off on making this myself because of the number of calories in sweetened condensed milk. It is quite a balance. Maybe if I could just give coffee up altogether I’d be better off but everyone has a vice right? ;)

Kat…If you find out how, please do let us know! I’m an American ex-pat living in Ireland, and the Italian Sweet Cream coffee creamer is one of the food items I miss most. Thanks Maria, for this post–going to make some right now :D
