Although I am rarely more than a cup a day kind of girl, when I do drink coffee I like it to be creamy and sweet. I used to buy flavored creamer(and still added stevia) but have recently found a great frugal alternative that I can make at home and that spares me all the extra junk in commercial creamers. I also used to keep a container of dry creamer on hand just for when I ran out of liquid. Then I found out that dry milk is flammable! Tossed that stuff out and have moved on to this:
Homemade Coffee Creamer:
1 14oz. can of sweetened condensed milk
1-1 1/2 cup whole milk
Whisk it together and store it in a canning jar. Should keep for about 2 weeks if you donโt drink it all before then!
The possibilities for flavors are endless using this recipe as the main base. Today I added just a couple drops of almond extract. Delicious!
I am looking forward to playing around with different flavors that I found here. Want to try?
*Vanilla
to the base recipe, add
1 Tablespoon of Vanilla
*Cinnamon Vanilla
to the base recipe, add
1 Tablespoon of Vanilla

*Dulce de Leche

Note: consider decreasing the amount of sweetened condensed milk in the base recipe by 2 Tablespoons to keep your creamer from being too sweet.

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon almond extract

to the base recipe, add
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
3 T. cocoa powder
1 teaspoon orange extract

i hope the flammability of powdered milk was not from firsthand experience!

Not exactly. Just learned that the “fire balls” they set off when we go see fireworks at the lake are basically a 50 gallon drum full of powdered milk. Did a little research and found out it’s true. Not a fan of ingesting things that easily ignite!

Popping to say that I met someone today who read this post and is using the creamer with success.

Oh wow…thank you so much!! I love creamer but it gets pricey, I cant wait to try this and all the different variations. I wonder how you make Italian Sweet Cream? Its probably easy but I just dont know it, ha!

Italian Sweet Cream is one of my favorites too! I have to admit, I have backed off on making this myself because of the number of calories in sweetened condensed milk. It is quite a balance. Maybe if I could just give coffee up altogether I’d be better off but everyone has a vice right? ๐

Kat…If you find out how, please do let us know! I’m an American ex-pat living in Ireland, and the Italian Sweet Cream coffee creamer is one of the food items I miss most. Thanks Maria, for this post–going to make some right now ๐
