Making Connections

Earlier this week I waited for the kids to join me in the school room to start lessons.  Lilly was insistent on finishing up her “craft” before she could do her book work.  When I realized what she was “crafting” I couldn’t possibly stop her to do “lessons!”  After she proudly displayed it on the kitchen wall she invited me to see her finished project.

Her “craft” turned out to be a picture model of exactly what we happen to be studying in science.  In case you are wondering, the masking tape blob on the apple just happens to be the spot where she “took a bite out of it!”

These moments make me whisper a sincere “Thank you!” for the opportunity to be here with them as they make these connections and experience learning as a way of life.  She was totally lost in the fun of her craftiness but in reality she was showing me, her teacher, that she had learned exactly what the objective was from our recent science lesson.  But to her, it was just fun!
