Who we are

Welcome to our homestead! I am Maria, wife to my best friend, mother of two(and 3 little angels), and a child of God.

We are a simple Catholic family, thriving in the middle of this great corn state, right smack in the middle of the USA.  Our goals are pretty simple(sounding anyway!):  To live more off the land, to simplify our life, to teach our children to love God and to appreciate hard work, to raise our children to love to learn, to serve God and to spread his word to others, to live honestly, to live debt-free, and to Glorify our Heavenly Father in all that we say and do.

Sounds simple right?  But, we also know that the life we choose is much different than the typical American life.  While many people dream of a bigger house, a newer car, toys and boats, we dream of growing our own crops, raising cows, chickens and goats(OK and a bigger tractor would be really nice.)!  We choose this life because it feels right for us.  We choose this life because it brings us closer together as a family and closer to our Maker.  We choose this life because we appreciate where our food and daily necessities come from and if we can do it ourselves we will probably try.

We live on nearly 6 acres of Mark’s family property and we have hopes of restoring part of it to native prairie, part to oak savanna and of restoring the out building and barn to their original intended purposes.  We know it will take time but we have patience.  We are taking one step at a time to get things to where we need/want them to be.  This blog is my way of journaling our progress, our successes and our failures.  It is a way for us to connect with like-minded people who can appreciate what we are doing and will inspire us along the way.

If that sounds like you I hope you’ll click around, leave a comment and introduce yourself.  We would love to hear from you!

Happy homesteading!
